Love Blossoms in Harvest Green

When Bethany Busa and Nicholas DeBrock met at the Harvest Green Village Farm two years ago, neither knew that love and marriage were in their future.

Fresh from her studies at Texas A&M and working on a farm in College Station, Bethany was eager to dive into the practical aspects of farming. On her first day, she met Nick, who had been working at the farm for two years after moving from Connecticut. Nick’s transition to Texas allowed him to engage in his passion for year-round farming. The two found themselves drawn to each other.

“Each of us really enjoy what we do,” Bethany said. “Many times, we would stay late together and work on the farm. These moments allowed us quality time to have fun and also dive into deeper, meaningful conversations. Sometimes we would find ourselves still talking and laughing as the sun was setting. How time flies when you are being swept away!”

Not long after, Nick asked Bethany if they could spend time together outside of work.                    '

This was the first time I ever actually dated someone,” Bethany said. “I was quite nervous but also super excited to start this journey! He was such a gentleman and sweetheart in every way. Our first date was at an Indian food spot which we both loved and continue to go on dates there as it holds a special place in our heart.”

Like growing plants, their love was nurtured over time by working together and getting to know one another.

Bethany was attracted by Nick’s good looks, but she quickly found there was more to him than that.

“I would say I was first attracted to Nick because of the kindness and love that flows from him so naturally and how he shares that with others,” she said. “He loves his family so much, and when I saw the way in which he loved his mother in particular, I knew he was a true gentleman.”

Nick found many things attractive about Bethany, including her natural beauty, laugh, presentation and how grounded she was in her faith and morals, but one thing stood out above all else.

“If I had to really peg attraction to one thing with Bethany it would be her motherly nature,” he said. “Something I just hadn't really seen before, or at least to the degree that Bethany was. I could just tell that she would be a great mother, and that was something I found very attractive, that I didn't even realize I wanted.”

When it came time to propose, Nick didn’t have a set plan.

“He said that he carried the ring with him, and if the moment was right then he would pop the question,” Bethany said.

One day the two were travelling to visit one of Bethany’s friends. They began stopping along a route of ‘Old Painted Churches of Texas."

“We were at the last one and had just picked some wildflowers outside before leaving,” Bethany said. “To my surprise Nick got down on one knee! We were the only ones in this small, very beautifully painted church and had time to relish the moment together through both laughter and tears. Nick really chose the perfect moment, all in spontaneity. “

The two celebrated their wedding on Nov. 23, 2024 — almost exactly two years after their first date. The ceremony was held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land followed by a reception at George Ranch Historical Park surrounded by friends and family.

“Many parts of our wedding were very special,” Bethany said, “including being able to wear my mom’s dress, Nick's parents helping us to forage for Spanish moss to decorate the venue, growing our own wedding flowers on the farm and my good friends arranging bouquets the night before the wedding.”

Nick’s family came out from Connecticut, and many decided to celebrate a true Texas wedding by going on a trip to get fitted for cowboy hats!

It was a special day, and we are so happy to have been a part of it. Congratulations to Bethany and Nick, we wish you all the happiness in the world!
