Chef Fest Serves Up Food, Fun and Philanthropy

We had a blast at Chef Fest. The food cooked up by a dozen rock star chefs was amazing, the local craft beers exhilarating and we loved meeting everyone that came out. More importantly, the farm-to-table food festival raised $4,000 for Houston-area charities.

Chef Fest took place March 4 at our very own Village Farm. The featured chefs —hailing from Houston, Dallas and Austin — prepared an assortment of dishes utilizing ingredients sourced from area farms for approximately 700 food lovers.

There also was a silent auction to raise money for the Houston Food Bank, I’ll Have What She’s Having, Urban Harvest and the Houston Food System Collaborative. If you came out, hopefully your bid was a winner and you were able to take home a wine tour, a chef-cooked meal, dessert tasting or a cookbook.

All four charities are near and dear to our hearts and we will be dividing the money equally between them so they can continue to carry on their missions to help the greater Houston community.

The Houston Food Bank will be using the donation to provide meals for children, adults and senior citizens who need meal assistance. Urban Harvest and the Houston Food System Collaborative will use their donations to further their work educating consumers on the value of organic, sustainable food production. I’ll Have What She’s Having will use the funds to provide much needed health services to women lacking insurance.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this year’s Chef Fest a memorable one!
