April Farm Report

We didn’t have a lot of April showers, but we did have a lot of fun. We celebrated Earth Day and are watching our flower patch bloom. Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been up to.

Earth Day Was a Blast

As you might imagine, we love celebrating Earth Day. In April, we celebrated it at the Harvest Green Farmers Market. We started out with our annual Oyster Creek Cleanup, and we’d like to say thanks to everyone who showed up for the cleanup. We’re also glad the kids left a few of the wild blackberries they found along the way. At the market, families were able to plant their own microgreens and purchase the first cherry tomatoes and green beans of the season. Our farmers market takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays rain or shine.

April Flowers

Did you know we grow more than fruits and vegetables? That’s right, we also grow flowers. The flowers in our flower patch started to bloom in April. Our original goal when we planted it was to have enough flowers for our May Mother’s Day Market. This year, we plan to keep the patch growing from now through the fall with different flower varieties. You’ll be able to see them anytime you visit the Village Farm, but we also hope to have a limited number of bouquets available for sale. We’re currently harvesting small amounts of zinnias, cosmos and sunflowers. You can expect to see plenty of other varieties later in the season such as bachelor’s buttons, gomphrena and poppies.

Farm Tours Are Ongoing

Have you signed up for one of our Meet the Farm Tours yet? If you haven't, you should. During the tours, we walk you through what it takes to run a farm like ours. We’ll also show you our fields, greenhouses and more. You can even try some of our freshly harvested veggies. The next tour is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 25. Another tour will take place June 29. Reserve your spot today.
